Regulations

Use of animals in research is permitted only if relevant results cannot be obtained by other means.
Swedish law prohibits the use of animals in research unless the study has been reviewed and approved in advance by an Ethical Committee on Animal Experiments.

Swedish society presumes that people use and keep animals to serve their purposes.

Swedish legislation addressing the ethical evaluation of animal research was instituted in 1979.
