Information about animal research in Sweden

Ferrets

Few laboratory animals are pure carnivores, but the ferret is one such animal. It can be suitable for investigating, e.g. metabolism and the coupling to digestion.
Ferrets also contract certain infections that are unusual among other animal species. When researchers found that a bacterium, helicobacter pylori, contributes to ulcers in humans, ferrets played an important role as laboratory animals.

Ferrets are also used in research on the brain and nervous system
