Uppsala University

Uppsala University, founded in 1477, is the largest Nordic university.
The university offers higher education and research at nine faculties: theology, law, arts, languages, social sciences, educational sciences, medicine, pharmacy, and science and technology. The university also offers approximately 50 undergraduate programmes, around 50 at the master´s level, and nearly 2000 courses.

Uppsala Universityexternal link, opens in new window has roughly 40 000 undergraduate students, 2500 doctoral students, and 6000 employees, whereof 4000 are teachers/researchers and 500 are professors.

The Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy includes two faculties, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Pharmacy, that educate physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, biomedical technicians, pharmacists, and other professionals. Currently, the faculties of medicine and pharmacy have over 7000 students and over 1000 employees, most of whom are researchers.

Management of laboratory animals at Uppsala University is centralised and governed by a board (SUUF) that also serves as the vice chancellor´s reference group on animal research issues. This board and university veterinarians supervise quality and animal health. Uppsala University recently endorsed a policy on animal research.
