At Lund University (www.lu.seexternal link) internationally renowned research is being conducted in several cutting-edge research fields, including nanotechnology and stem cell biology. Eight faculties — engineering, science, medicine, economics, social sciences, arts, law, and humanities — provide opportunities for both broad-based and highly specialised research.

The Faculty of Medicine (www.med.lu.seexternal link) maintains close collaboration with hospital and health services. The faculty contributes towards improving life through education, research, and communication of highly relevant information about human health.

Students at the Faculty of Medicine can study to become nurses, physicians, biomedical researchers, speech pathologists, or other professionals in one of the nine undergraduate programmes. Research spans a broad area, from experimental research in basic sciences to applied research addressing clinical care, nursing science, and social issues.

A special unit is responsible for activities involving laboratory animals at the faculty. A user group associated with the unit includes individuals who perform animal experiments, set standards of conduct, and work with organisational development.
